FAQ

What do I need for my appointment?

Generally, Dr. Kendall requires an overview radiograph such as an OPG. If you have not had a recent OPG, we will send you a referral so you can go to your local radiology clinic. Some clinics are bulk-billed so be sure to check before you book your appointment. If you are not sure, please feel free to give us a call.

Do I need a referral to come to see Dr. Kendall?

No - you don’t need a referral to come and see us! Call or email us to discuss your particular case & we can book you in for a consultation.

Why see a specialist? What would I get out of a consultation with Dr. Kendall ?

You may have been referred to see us, want a second opinion or have had reoccurring dental pain/issues and just need someone to give you an overall understanding of your mouth with consideration of your personal circumstances.

Your consultation is thorough and an appointment is one hour. Dr. Kendall reviews all radiographs, medical, dental and familial history, examines you clinically and will explain the findings to you with a detailed overview of any treatment - outlined in a treatment plan. Dr. Kendall writes letters to your referring practitioners outlining her recommended treatment and findings.

We are a sole-practitioner so we run a tight ship but we aren’t here to push you with treatment you don’t need.

I am young but my dentist said I have general periodontal disease? Is it going to be extremely expensive?

Periodontal disease is commonly misunderstood to be an inevitable consequence of getting older. This is not the case, however, if you have been diagnosed young, you are in a wonderful position to ensure the greatest longevity of your existing dentition (teeth). Home and professional maintenance is important and more cost-beneficial than full replacement or waiting until the teeth become loose. We will provide you with an understanding of your diagnosis, what that means going forward and how best to maintain your teeth and gum health.

I get particularly nervous with dental treatment, how can you help?

Dr. Kendall will run through and discuss your options with you during your consultation. We are a small practice that looks after our patients - articulate your concerns and we will do what we can to assist.

My parents’ teeth fell out, should I be concerned?

Periodontitis is often passed down genetically. Your familial history is generally a great place to start but does not mean you have periodontal disease. It is certainly best to seek a specialist’s opinion and have a clinical and radiographical review of your mouth.

My dentist took some x-rays, can you use those?

It is likely your general dentist may have already sent your imaging and referral through. When you book your consultation appointment with our reception staff, they will let you know whether or not we need you to undertake an x-ray. Generally, we need an overview radiograph such as an OPG. If you have not had one taken recently we will send you a referral to get one. You can use the referral at any radiology clinic. Some clinics will bulk-bill so be to check this before booking the x-ray. If you are not sure, please feel free to give us a call.
