Implant Maintenance
Maintenance aims to stabilise your gum/bone connection to the implant. It is important your implant maintenance is with an experienced implant clinician.
We recommend this is done at least once yearly and if you have lost teeth due to gum disease, smoke or have health issues, maintenance may need to be more often.
The longevity of your implant requires regular home and professional care. Infected implants diminish your options for another implant in the future.
Peri-implantitis can be caused by inadequate maintenance. This is an infection of the gum around your implant. This can be a serious problem so don’t ignore signs:
bleeding implant
bad taste
bad smell
tender gums around the implant
bite changes
loose crown
Implant maintenance has three factors:
your oral health routine—above the gum
your regular professional maintenance routine
your general health (lifestyle, medical history, smoking etc.)
