Periodontal treatment may be undertaken as a surgical procedure. There are many reasons for surgery being necessary, commonly to improve the prognosis of an important tooth/teeth. This procedure may be recommended in order to access the biofilm that is inaccessible under the gum with normal debridement (deep cleaning). This treatment is referred to as access surgery.
If your tooth or teeth are compromised and inflamed causing discomfort or progressive damage, periodontal surgery aims to increase the longevity of your tooth and arrest damage. This is less costly than replacement. Surgery gives enhanced access to the roots of your teeth. Surgery is undertaken under local anaesthetic in our rooms. Usually you are able to drive home and time off work is generally only for the next day. Please talk to our staff as each individual has differing circumstances and your surgery will be tailored to your needs.
